Shema: Bible Clock for Apple TV · Effective September 14, 2026

Shema: Bible Clock shows a verse that matches the time, over public-domain paintings. This policy covers the Apple TV app. Shema: Sermon Notes & Bible Study, the iPhone app, is a different product and has its own policy at shemaai.com/privacy.

We wrote this in plain language on purpose.

The short version

Shema: Bible Clock has no account, no sign-up, and no analytics. We do not have a server that stores anything about you, because there is nothing to store. Your settings and your kept paintings live on your Apple TV and go no further.

What stays on your Apple TV

Your settings — language, translation, clock size, layout, background, and everything else you choose in Settings.

The paintings you keep — held as a short list of catalogue identifiers, a few bytes each.

Cached artwork — paintings are downloaded as they are shown and kept in the app's cache folder so the same picture is not fetched twice. tvOS may clear this whenever it needs the space.

None of this is sent anywhere. Removing the app removes all of it.

What leaves your Apple TV

Four things, and only these.

Weather, if you turn it on. Shema sends a location to Open-Meteo to get the forecast. That is either a place name you typed in yourself, or your Apple TV's approximate location — requested at roughly one-kilometre accuracy, which is the coarsest level tvOS offers. Nothing accompanies it: no identifier, no account, no history. Turn Weather off and nothing is sent at all. See Open-Meteo's privacy policy.

Paintings. Your Apple TV fetches artwork images directly from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Wikimedia Commons. Those sites see your device's IP address and which image was requested, the same as visiting any website. They receive nothing else from us, and we receive nothing back from them about you.

Licensed Bible translations, if you choose one. Most translations are in the public domain and are bundled with the app, so they work with no internet connection at all. A few translations are licensed, and are fetched through a Shema server that passes the request on to Faith Comes By Hearing. The request says which translation, which book, and which chapter. It carries no identifier of you or of your device.

Nothing else. Shema: Bible Clock contains no analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting service of any kind. It includes no third-party software development kits — only Apple's own frameworks. Nothing in the app measures what you do and reports it anywhere.

Your photographs

You can set your own photographs as the background. This is off unless you turn it on.

If you do, Shema asks for permission to your photo library and lists the iCloud Shared Albums this Apple TV subscribes to. You choose one album, and Shema reads only that album. The pictures are displayed and never uploaded, to us or to anyone else.

Apple's photo permission has only two levels — add-only, and full access — and reading requires the full one. So that is what Shema asks for, although it only ever reads. It never adds, changes, or deletes a photograph. You can withdraw the permission at any time in the Apple TV's Settings, under Privacy & Security.

Purchases

Shema+ is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card, your Apple Account, or your name. Apple tells the app one thing — whether Shema+ is currently active — and the app stores nothing about the purchase itself beyond that.

If you have allowed it in your Apple TV's privacy settings, Apple may give us aggregate, anonymous sales and usage statistics. That comes from Apple and concerns groups of people, never you individually. It does not come from the app.

Children

Shema collects no personal information from anyone, of any age, so it collects none from children.

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
